My music tastes range from metal to classical music. That makes for interesting relationships in the church as a pastor! There are also a number of hymns that I really love but not many more than “Blessed Redeemer” written by Avis M. Christiansen in 1920 and recently made more popular by Casting Crowns in their album “Until the whole world hears”. The Lyrics are:
Up Calv’ry’s mountain, one dreadful morn,
Walked Christ my Savior, weary and worn;
Facing for sinners death on the cross,
That He might save them from endless loss.
Refrain: Blessed Redeemer! Precious Redeemer!
Seems now I see Him on Calvary’s tree;
Wounded and bleeding, for sinners pleading,
Blind and unheeding—dying for me!
“Father forgive them!” thus did He pray,
E’en while His lifeblood flowed fast away;
Praying for sinners while in such woe—
No one but Jesus ever loved so.
Oh, how I love Him, Savior and Friend,
How can my praises ever find end!
Through years unnumbered on heaven’s shore,
My tongue shall praise Him forevermore.
I don’t have to add much more other than to say if you meditate on this regularly it will fill your heart with more love for our blessed Redeemer!
